The Reading Former Players' Association is sad to hear of the death of former player and club captain Johnny Walker at the age of 90.
Signed by manager Harry Johnston for £2,500 in December 1957 from Southampton, Johnny made over 300 appearances as a forward for Reading. His success and character led him to being named club captain before retiring from professional football at the age of 38 in 1966.
After his retirement he continued working with the club, becoming reserve team coach until leaving to work for the Royal Mail. Johnny remained local to the area, living in Theale, and was well known in the Madejski Stadium West Stand where he continued to support Reading as a season ticket holder.
The Association would like to pass its deepest condolences to Johnny's family and friends at this time.
