Sir John Madejski paid tribute to two loyal servants of Reading FC when they both retired fron the club last July.

Former player and groundsman Gordon Neate and kit-man Ron Grant were given a good send-off at a special function held at Madejski Stadium.

Both received a framed signed Royals shirt and an album containing pictures of their careers.

Neate began his association with the club as a player 53 years ago.

Madejski described Neate’s service as “incredible,” adding: “When you (Gordon) were handed a special award by Barclays (league sponsors) a couple of years ago they described you as ‘Mr Reading’ and after 50 years here who could disagree?”

The chairman told Grant, an associate member of the Ex-Players Association, that he was a “true stalwart” and thanked him for his loyal service over such a long period.

Also among the 50 staff who attended the farewell party were new manager Brendan Rodgers and club captain Ivar Ingimarsson.
