'Geordie' opens a day of festivities
BBC Radio Berkshire football commentator and former Reading FC player and Joint-Manager, Mick Gooding, was on hand on a very hot Sunday afternoon to officially open the 2014 East Reading Festival at Palmer Park, Reading.
After a short question and answer session, in which he spoke of his footballing career and tipped Argentina to win the forthcoming World Cup finals, he formerly opened the day’s activities.
The festival is a ‘celebration of all thing East Reading’, with over sixty stalls and side shows promoting everything from local tradespeople to voluntary groups; from East Reading Adventure Playground to the University of Reading’s Department of Meteorology.
There were refreshment stalls, too, from ‘Cakes Galore’ to Miss Sheila’s Caribbean cooking. The entertainment provided both on stage and in the performance and activity arena, were also varied and diverse from Nepalese Dancing to New Indie, Grunge, and Funk Rock bands.
