Players team up to launch ex-Royals website

FORMER Reading players can now meet on the internet thanks to a new website designed to keep them in touch with one another and raise money for charity. The Reading FC Ex-Players Association kicked off its new site at the Madejski Stadium this week. The site was designed and donated by former Royal`s keeper Steve Mautone who now runs his own web design business, Insite Design.
The association plans a number of promotional events such as reunions, ex-player appearances, book signings and after dinner speeches. Over 130 ex-Royals are members and their details are listed on the site.

Secretary Richard Wickson said: "We want to raise the profile of the association. There is a lot of interest in this sort of thing and one of our aims is to use that interest to generate money for a number of charities." An ex-players team has already been formed and Mr Wickson hopes to organise occasional fundraising matches against other `veterans` teams.

Among the ex-Royals attending the launch were:
Nicky Hammond (1995 - 2000, currently director of football), Kevin Dillon (1991 - 1994, currently assistant manager), Ray Reeves (1947 - 1961), Jimmy Wheeler (1952 - 1968), Steve Mautone (1997 - 1999), Lawrie Sanchez (1978 - 1984, currently Northern Ireland manager) and Gordon Neate (1955 - 1958 and currently Madejski Stadium groundsman).
