Former Royals turn out for 'Mr Didcot'

A team of former Reading FC legends will be turning out on Sunday 10th May (2pm) to honour Didcot Town stalwart Jamie Heapy in his Testimonial match.

The Reading FC Charity XI will travel to Didcot Town’s Loop Meadow ground (OX11 7GA) to play a Didcot Town XI in tribute to Heapy’s 20 year service to the Hellenic League club.

After starting his career at the age of 16, Jamie is close to racking up his 850th appearance for The Railwaymen which spans three divisions and many trophies including Didcot’s famous FA Vase win 10 years ago.

With his loyal service to Didcot Town, Jamie is quite rightly regarded as ‘Mr Didcot’ and now combines the playing side with the managerial role in which he holds jointly with the clubs all-time leading goal scorer, Ian Concannon.

Leading out the former ‘Royals’ will be Mick Gooding and accompanying him will be Michael Gilkes, Simon Osborn, Barry Hunter, Kevin Watson, Stuart Beavon, Glen Little and Martyn Williams.*

The Reading former player side will also include players familiar with the club including Neville Roach who had a spell with the club and also Ady Williams who had a brief spell as manager of Didcot in The Southern Premier Division.

Williams’ says of Heapy, “He is a modal Pro. What he has achieved at Didcot has been truly amazing and sets a superb example for the younger players. I enjoyed my time working with him and he thoroughly deserves our admiration and support’

Still to confirm but hoping to pull on a Reading shirt is TV personality and star of The Royle Family and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Ralf Little. Jamie’s Testimonial game is a 2pm Kick off with Adults & Concessions £5 and Children only £1.

The match forms only part of a number of events scheduled by Didcot Town Football Club as part of the anniversary of the club’s FA Vase success against AFC Sudbury 10 years ago. The events include the clubs annual presentation night, FA Cup Final 6 a side and Sportsman evening with John Hartson speaking.
