We were saddened to hear of the death of Dennis Penford who passed away in Torquay on 27th November 2011, aged 80.

Dennis was born in Reading and joined his hometown club as an amateur in 1949 before completing his National Service in the RAF.

He made 112 first team appearances for Reading between 1953 and 1957, scoring 7 goals, playing at right-back, right half and occasionally, at centre-forward. He later signed for Torquay United and made a further 77 Football League appearances before taking charge of the Devon club’s youth team and organising a youth league in that area.
