The Reading FC Former Players’ Association are delighted to announce An Evening With Shane Long and Jem Karacan on Thursday 16 March 2023, at the Tilehurst British Legion Club.
HOSTED BY BBC RADIO BERKSHIRE AND FORMER READING FC WELSH INTERNATIONAL ADY WILLIAMS.
The event will give fans a unique opportunity to meet, and put questions to, Shane Long and Jem Karacan. The two hugely popular Reading players spent several seasons together at the club during some of the club’s most successful years. Shane Long joined the Royals in the summer of 2005 from Cork City to become part of Reading’s 2005/2006 Championship winning squad. Jem Karacan was already at Reading as a youth player before signing a professional contract with the Royals in 2007.
Jem went on to make 155 appearances for the Royals, scoring 11 goals and playing a key role in Reading’s second Championship winning side in 2011/2012. Despite his season ending in injury in April 2012 he was awarded a new contract and returned to action in the Premier League. Under Nigel Adkins he was made club captain despite injury problems, eventually moving to Galatasary in 2015.
Shane’s performances at Reading continued to go from strength to strength and his haul of 28 goals in the 2010/2011 season nearly saw the Royals make another return to the Premier League – only missing out after play-off final defeat against Swansea. However, his incredible form saw Shane move up to the top division after a multi-million pound transfer to West Bromwich Albion. After spending 8 years at Southampton from 2014, Shane eventually returned home to Reading, much to the joy of Reading fans this season.
Thursday 16 March 2023 at Tilehurst Royal British Legion club, Downing Road, Reading, RG31 5BB.
