Huntswood Lift Trophies at Eamonn Dolan 5-a-side tournament
Huntswood again emerged victorious in this year's Eamonn Dolan 5-a-side tournament, organised by The Reading FC Former Players' Association. In a well contested event, teams played in three groups before progressing to either the cup or plate knock out rounds. It was a successful day for tournament sponsors Huntswood with their second team going on to win the plate competition.
All teams enjoyed the event and went home with Association branded goody bags with items from our sponsors Huntswood, Fyffes, McDonalds and Jacobs the Jewelers. The Association would like to thank all our sponsors and the Woodley Carnival Committee and Woodford Park Leisure centre.
Organiser George Friel said, "This year's tournament has once again been a big success. We've had some great feedback from players and referees saying they enjoyed the day. The 3G pitches at Woodford park leisure centre were excellent. I would also like to say a big thank you once again to Kate Parkinson for her help. This was our ninth tournament together and I'm looking forward to making our tenth one together even better. Thank you for all of the effort from the board members of the Reading FC Former Players' association board members, who helped make the tournament a success".
After beating Meadway U23 4-1 in the Cup final, the Huntswood team went on to play a Reading FC Former Players team in the main arena of the Woodley carnival. The Reading FC team included Phil Brown, Mikele Leigertwood, Ibrahima Sonko, Noel Hunt, Matt Stowell and Freddie Grant; and ran out 2-1 winners. Noel Hunt and Freddie Grant scored the goals for the Royals in an entertaining match that was watched by a large crowd.
We very much look forward to holding this tournament again next year, and welcoming all of this years competitors back, working with Woodley Carnival and Woodford Park Leisure centre.
