Reading born Brian Leach was spotted by Reading player Gilbert Glidden whilst playing for Coley park Boys and joined the Groundstaff in 1950.

Coached by another former Reading player Tony McPhee, Brian began his career as a forward but developed into a fine centre-half.

At one point he almost joined Burnley but remained at Reading for over seven years, scoring his only goal in his final season.

Brian left Elm Park in 1957 and played for several non-League clubs, including Clacton for whom he won the Southern League Division One title in 1959/60.
