He played for Reading, Oxford United, Gillingham and Aldershot in a twelve-year professional career.

Although born in Plymouth, Colin was brought up in Wantage, Berkshire.As a Youth he had one season in the Reading Youth team. Being only offered Non-contract terms he joined near neighbours Oxford United. Whilst at Oxford, Colin had a trial for Scotland Youth.

Colin spent six years at Oxford and played nearly 200 times for them.

Considered so highly, Gillingham had to break their transfer record to attract him to Kent for £50,000 in 1981.

In 1983, Colin returned to Reading and became a key member of manager Ian Branfoot's succesful 1983/84 Third Division promotion campaign.

Duncan moved to Aldershot in May 1985 as Glenn Burvill moved in the opposite direction to take his place.
